The Unesco-listed Grand-Hornu mining complex, near Mons, Belgium. Built in the early 19th century by French entrepreneur Henri Degorge and designed by architect Bruno Renard, in Neoclassical style and surrounded by neatly arranged streets of worker's housing, Grand-Hornu developed into one of the largest mining companies in Belgium. It is now open as a museum, and since 2012 was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, along with three other historic mines in Wallonia. © Rudolf Abraham
