Castle Cornet, St Peter Port, Guernsey
Evening light on the 'town bastion' of Castle Cornet, St Peter Port, Guernsey, Channel Islands. This and other bastions were built to strengthen the existing, 13th century castle against new weaponry during the 16th-17th century, and are the work of Paul Ivy, the foremost military engineer of his day, who was the first to Introduce Italian ideas of fortification into Britain. © Rudolf Abraham
