Momak ('squire') at the Sinjska Alka, Sinj, Croatia
Čoja, the second day of the Sinjska Alka, in Sinj, Croatia. The Alka is a knightly tournament dating back to 1715, in which riders compete to spear a small metal ring from a galloping horse. The Alka is inscribed on the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Pictured here, a momak ('squire') in traditional local folk costume. Each Alkar has a momak as an assistant. © Rudolf Abraham
