Pole with towels and tea-towels, at a wedding in a village near Zadar, Croatia. It was once a tradition in villages in Dalmatia for the 'cajo' (always a member of the bride's family) to carry a pole such as this and gather towels, tea towels, handkerchiefs or other pieces of cloth to attach to the top. These were then distributed among the guests at the end of the wedding day. © Rudolf Abraham
