In this gallery you'll find photos of the Croatian capital, Zagreb, along with Unesco-listed Dubrovnik, Split, Šibenik, Trogir and Poreč, the historic cities of Zadar, Pula, Rovinj, Osijek, Rijeka (European Capital of Culture 2020) and Varaždin, and other towns and villages across the country, some well-known, others less familiar – including Baška, Buzet, Čigoć, Đakovo, Grožnjan, Hum, Karlovac, Knin, Labin, Marija Bistrica, Motovun, Nin, Opatija, Oprtalj, Pazin, Roč, Samobor, Senj, Sinj, Sisak, Vizinada, Vodnjan, Volosko, Vukovar, to name jus a few – and the islands of Brač, Cres, Dugi otok, Hvar, Korčula, Krk, Lastovo, Lošinj, Mljet, Pag, Rab, Silba and Vis.
There are landscape and nature images from Croatia’s national parks and nature parks, photos of its geology, wildlife and plants, and of hiking in its mountains, forests and karst areas – including Dinara (Croatia’s highest mountain, on the Border with Bosnia), Velebit (a Unesco Biosphere Reserve), Paklenica, Plitvice Lakes (Plitvička jezera), Risnjak, Krka, Medvednica, Kopački rit, Papuk, Sljeme, Kornati and Telašćica, and trails such as the Velebitski planinarski put, Via Dinarica and the Parenzana. And there are also photos of Croatia's fabulously rich cultural heritage, including architecture (Roman ruins, Byzantine mosaics, Romanesque, Gothic, Medieval, Venetian, Secessionist, Habsburg, modern), traditional culture and festivals, folk costumes, music and dance, and Unesco Intangible Cultural Heritage – lace-making on the island of Pag, gingerbread craftsmanship in northern Croatia, wooden toy-makers, dry stone walling, the Alka tournament in Sinj, the Procession of the Ljelje in Gorjani, the zvončari (bell-ringers) of Kastav – as well as Rijeka Carnival, Brodsko kolo (the country's oldest and largest folk dance festival, held in Slavonski Brod), Assumption Day (Velika Gospa), Cest is d'Best street theatre festival, Rab medieval crossbow festival, Subotina in Buzet, and images of Croatian food and wine.

I have been visiting, photographing and writing about Hrvatska (Croatia) for over 20 years, lived in Zagreb for two years, and continue to make several trips a year to my favourite country in Europe.
