< Blaudruck Indigo Dyeing in Austria

Images of traditional Blaudruck (indigo dyeing) in Austria, shot as part of an ongoing project and published in a feature in Hidden Europe magazine. The first image below shows a wooden block used for hand-printing a design onto cloth, in the workshop of Karl and Maria Wagner, in Bad Leonfelden – some of the blocks in their workshop, and in the workshop of Josef Koó in Steinberg (second image), are over 170 years old. Blaudruck, the art of resist block printing and dyeing, was inscribed on the Unesco list of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2018.
